Gearing Up

Sorry if the blog’s been as dry as a desert lately. A lot’s been going down as I prepare to move from my 1 bedroom apartment to begin the next chapter in life’s ever changing book. Let’s just say that prepping to move, sucks!

In other news, our Summer collection is almost completely designed but you’ll be happy to note that I’ve got another release (to hold you over) dropping VERY soon. What is this release you ask? This summer marks our 4th year in business (I know, FUCKING NUTS) so to celebrate I rekindled some of our most popular pieces and spread them out between two t-shirts & 3 tank-tops. I’m extremely stoked to put this out because y’all have been asking for some of these pieces for say, THE LAST 3 YEARS! I have a shoot lined up for today & I’m aiming to drop it within the first week of JUNE so you’ll definitely want to stay posted for that as the quantities are LIMITED! Stay tuned for some more posts leading up to the release but I’ve got to get off to shooting & just wanted to give you a little update that we’re still alive & kicking! Complete PA For Sale

Before I put this up on Craigs List I wanted to put this out there to local musicians. This is an awesome complete PA system perfect for bands of all levels which I’ve used at an array of live events but due to moving will not be able to keep.

Here’s what’s included:

-QSC RXM 850 Power Amp (w/ original ppwk)

-12 channel Behringer Eurorack MX1604A (w/ original ppwk)

-Gator Case (enclosing the mixer & amp)

-2-15inch Peavey TLS-5 speakers w/ stands

I tested all the channels & everything works great! I am missing the front cover for the case (which hides the amp, but the amp is enclosed inside the case for protection) & 1 of the speakers needs a new bracket to hold the stand which you can find for very cheap at a music shop. I’m including the speaker cables as well. I am selling everything together for $600. If interested please email me at stillproudclothing@gmail.com. Hammerfist “Isolation” E.P

It’s been ages since I’ve reviewed a new release but when I was asked to scope Hammerfist’s latest EP, I couldn’t pass it up. HF has been tearing up the CA scene since 2004 and has released 2 ep.s (inc this one) & a full length to date. In this day & age they are a dying breed of the tougher brand of hardcore from mid 2k (that I loved & grew up on) and “Isolation” is no doubt a testament to keeping that flame burning bright.

What sticks out to me the most from their past material is notably the speed & slightly more optimistic lyrics. Unlike many releases in this genre that tend to be very formulaic, “Isolation” jumps the gun & hits you with more than enough substance to keep you on your toes. Fast punk tempos give way to devastating breakdowns that are bound to have you visualizing total destruction of your surroundings in no time! Seeing as a lot of my favorite bands hail from Cali, this record screamed nostalgia and almost brought to mind the likes of These Days & older Hoods for those of you who love comparisons. The 6 tracks clock in just under 15 minutes but it doesn’t feel rushed like you’d expect, only hungry for more. HF may not be the most groundbreaking band but what they do know is hardcore, and that’s more than enough for me! The overall vibe of the record is very raw & genuine & it’s glaringly obvious that this is a band that does it solely for themselves & the community they helped to build.

Bottom line: Isolation’s a MUST COP! Whether you’re a HC OG or recent convert, you’ll find something in this EP to appreciate! The record officially drops 4/30/13 but can be pre-ordered here & also make sure you’re following them on Facebook to stay in the know! Take a look inside:

Behind the Design: Corporate Consumption

We live in a culture where corporations run society. Call it fascism, corporatism or what have you, but it’s the truth. For example, who funds politicians that create & maintain our laws? More so above your direct contribution (to said candidate) it’s lobbyists working for companies that make up the largest industries of “influence” (Medical, Food, Military, Financial etc). These companies fund politicians who in turn sell themselves (and us) out.

On an individual level, you see people lose their identity all the time as they bond to certain companies and products many of which end up harming them in the long run (I.E: the major fast food chains, tobacco & alcohol companies). Public Relations/ Advertising campaigns have done an excellent job in creating this brand loyalty that people become so engrained with that they are willing to go down with the ship so to speak. It comes to a point beyond the glitzy ads & manufactured personas where we are merely seen as dollar signs which is largely unbeknownst to us.

This has always bothered me. Sure, there are great corporations out there & maybe even a couple negative ones that I personally support from time to time, but the idea that my health and well-being is overlooked because of the almighty dollar, is appalling. To combat this sentiment I had the idea for this design. It was intended to represent individual sovereignty, to say “No, I am not for sale. I don’t need your corporate brainwashing to describe who I am.”

In terms of the design, it had to be hand drawn to have that organic look to it & I knew right off the bat I needed a dope graf artist with a wicked hand style. Luckily I had stumbled upon the awesome work of Sleep 205 and knew that he was the man for the job. So a couple conversations later & we had this beauty in blood red lettering (get the symbolism?).

NY State Of Mind

When my girl mentioned a couple months back about wanting to visit NJ/ NY for a family get together, it didn’t take much time for me to get on board! It had been years since I had been near the city & ever since then I was fiending to get back. We stayed in NJ for most of the trip which was great as it was my first time meeting most of her family & by sheer luck, our original day trip to NYC ended up being an amazing night after we fell into a room right across from none other then the WTC & ground zero(shouts to her cousins on that!). Being in NYC for me was such an eclectic experience. With so much culture & a plethora of amazing restaurants to sample, 1 1/2 days in the city was certainly not enough for me. This trip made me realize how much I’m aching to live in a place with such a diverse culture & way of life & further reinforced some big plans I’ve got in motion for next year. So without further adiue, step into a NY state of mind:

Being that her families from Guyana they had the hookup on this amazing rum & I’m not even that big on rum but damn, this was good!

This was the view from our hotel: overlooking the grounds & monument of the twin towers. During the day the view is breathtaking enough but at night, there are no words to describe it other then: emotional. It was intense!

No trip can begin without some AMAZING coffee of which NYC has some of the best hands DOWN!

Got to hang out with some of my FL homies who now live in NYHome of BOMB cannolis!
