Today, 3 years ago I took a chance with a nice portion of my savings (while unemployed) and dropped our very first release. I had no knowledge of apparel and only the undying need to have something to call my own as my guidance. Little did I know that 3 years later I would be writing this post in reflection of the time. I’ve learned a ton, met a lot of awesome people and created products that have had an impact on people around the world and back. This in itself is VERY gratifying!!

I did not get here though without a bit of struggle. I’ve beat myself up, spent a lot of my own money, tarnished relationships, maybe missed out on an opportunity or two (3,4, 5…) all in attempt to see this through. I’ve been screwed by printers, designers and photographers but still somehow managed to persevere and drop 7 seasons. I’ve also watched brands that have started later than me blow up while wondering when the same would happen to me. These are the realities that you don’t see but the difference between me and most is that I NEVER gave up hope and have never been afraid to work hard without hand outs to get mine. I’ve learned, reassessed, and came back twice as hard to re-position myself in the game without a second thought.

A few weeks ago I dropped our Spring line which has started off 2012 on a great foot and up next is our Summer launch with a special 3 year release to follow. Mark my words that this will be the biggest year for the brand yet! I say it a lot and I don’t want to harp on it too much but I have no one to thank but you guys. So thank you for allowing me to keep dropping season after season with your purchases. If you haven’t yet, head here or here to pick up our Spring launch as we need the support now more than ever! “Living Proof” drops 7/10/12

I’ve often thought about doing parodies of iconic band logos/ symbols over the years and one of the ones that wouldn’t leave my thoughts alone was the Crimson Misfits skull. In a time where skulls grace just about all areas of fashion and band artwork, you got to know your roots and I can damn well guarantee that as one of the most iconic bands in aggressive music, the Misfits had a lot to do with this imagery. But after 30 years of being virtually untouched, I was surprised to find that it never really had a modern makeover. Sure there’s been copies and such but at a time where underground music/ fashion scenes as diverse as punk & hip-hop are very much intertwined, it seemed like the right time to give her a go. In a lot of ways, this piece exhibits the culture of Still Proud as we get a lot of love from both the hardcore and indie hip-hop scenes collectively.

On the design, I could have copied and had it graphically altered but that would have been too easy and even less creative. So I had the homie Tony Medellin work his magic once again with a hand drawn illustration, my favorite kind. From the skull to the logo everything’s 100% hand drawn. The flipped up brim was a must, along with the grill (only available on a select number of t’s) and of course I had to have a little bit of Still Proud flair in there via the S & P lettering and MVMT (an acronym for movement) under the brim. This is one of my favorite pieces I’ve put out and by the sounds of it, y’all appreciate it very  much as well. There were only 50 of these printed (even less for women: 18) and they are spread between our shop and the Karmaloop page so be sure to check both locations if we’re sold out in your size! Like I’ve experienced with the last few releases, the launch for the Spring gear was nothing short of awesome! From your reactions and purchases to the blog coverage I was very happy with the outcome. It’s been quite the action packed month of getting everything prepped then packing up your orders so thanks much for keeping me busy! Between your orders and a new retailer that may be coming on board, stock is thinning out so BE SURE TO GET YOUR ORDERS IN before we’re sold out (which in some sizes, WE ALREADY ARE!). Don’t forget that stock is split between our store and the Karmaloop page so check both if we’re out of your size! The last piece of Spring which is our 3rd snapback is being printed as we speak and I’m hoping to have it my hands within two weeks. I CAN’T WAIT UNTIL YOU GUYS SEE IT!

Having booked and promoted shows for many years before this, as well as been a part of my local scene for even longer, this video’s like a trip back in time. It’s great seeing the younger generation still have that fire and admiration for the music without the toughguy mentality that seems to run rampant throughout the scene. I’ve listened to hardcore for 10 years now and witnessed the scene through its ups and downs in Florida and it’s very refreshing to see the younger generation step up and do something to showcase the emerging talent. While I don’t get out to shows as much as I’d like I have mad respect for anyone who puts fourth their blood, sweat and tears to build and foster their local scene.

So shouts to the individuals that created this and to those that bitch and moan about this or that, get off your ass and DO SOMETHING to preserve this important music:
